More and more of our guests now come from the United Kingdom. Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory, so much will feel familiar: we drive on the left, play cricket, and the Royal Naval Dockyard is just up the road from us in Sandys. This page answers the questions UK guests ask us most.

Getting here

British Airways flies direct from London Heathrow Terminal 5 to L.F. Wade International Airport. The flight takes about 7½ hours, and you land the same day. How many flights a week depends on the season, so check ba.com for the current timetable. You can also fly via the United States or Canada (for example New York, Boston or Toronto), which can be cheaper or fit your dates better. If you go that way, check whether you need a US ESTA, even for a connection.

From the airport to us is about 50 minutes by taxi, and the fare is usually $80–$100. See Airport & Taxis for the drivers we recommend.

Passports and entry

British citizens do not need a visa to visit Bermuda on holiday. Your passport must be valid for your whole stay, and you may be asked to show a return or onward ticket. Rules can change, so please check the UK Foreign Office travel advice for Bermuda before you travel.

Our prices in pounds

Our prices are in US dollars (the Bermuda dollar is worth the same). As a guide, here they are in pounds at today's exchange rate:

CottageGuestsPer nightAbout
Sunset Studio1 or 2$280
Sugar Cane Cottage1 or 2$280
Studio II1 or 2$350
Winter Month Special1 or 2$5,750 a month

Rates for more guests, and the full price for your dates, are on the Book page. Prices are before any government taxes or fees. The exact amount in pounds depends on your bank.

Paying from a UK bank

When you book direct, you pay by bank transfer to our account with HSBC Bermuda. From a UK bank this is an international (SWIFT) payment in US dollars. Ask your bank what it charges, and compare a currency-transfer service, which is often cheaper. We hope to take card payments in the new year.

Money while you are here

Bermuda dollars and US dollars are used side by side, and shops will happily take either. Pounds are not accepted. Cards are taken almost everywhere, including contactless. A card without foreign-transaction fees will save you money. Bermuda is expensive, especially groceries and eating out, so it is worth budgeting with that in mind.

Plugs, phones and Wi-Fi

Bermuda uses US-style plugs and 120-volt power. Bring a UK-to-US travel adapter. Phone and laptop chargers are fine on 120 volts. Hairdryers and straighteners made for the UK usually are not, unless they say 100–240V.

All our cottages have free high-speed Wi-Fi, so you can call home and stream at no cost. Away from the cottage, be careful: UK mobile roaming deals rarely include Bermuda, and roaming here can be very expensive. Check with your network before you go, or buy a travel eSIM or a local SIM card on arrival.

Health and insurance

The NHS does not cover you in Bermuda, and medical treatment here is very expensive. Travel insurance that includes medical cover is essential. See Health & Travel Insurance.

Getting around

Bermuda drives on the left, like the UK, but visitors cannot hire ordinary cars. Instead you can hire a two-seater electric mini-car or a scooter, or use the buses and ferries. The ferry to Hamilton leaves from Watford Bridge, a short walk from us. See Getting Around.

When to come

MonthsWhat it is like
May to OctoberBeach season: warm sea, swimming, snorkelling and sailing. July and August are hottest and busiest. The hurricane season runs from June to November; see Hurricanes & Bermuda.
April and NovemberQuieter, mild and good value. The sea is cooler but many people still swim.
December to MarchMild rather than hot, usually around 20°C: good for walking, cycling the Railway Trail and golf. Humpback whales pass in March and April; see Humpback Whales. For a long stay, see our Winter Month Special.

Our cottages fit well with UK school holidays, including Easter, the May and October half-terms and the summer. Bermuda also has its own events through the year; see What's On.

A little bit of home

Bermuda has been British since 1612. You will find red post boxes and club cricket all summer. Cup Match, the island's two-day cricket festival, is held every summer. Just up the road from us are the Royal Naval Dockyard and the forts that guarded it; see Bermuda's Forts. There are also proper pubs; see Restaurants & Food.
